Two professors in BCMB, Brad Binder and Gladys Alexandre, just heard that they were awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation and United States Department of Agriculture to study bacterial ethylene receptors and the effects of ethylene on bacteria. Ethylene is well known as a plant hormone, but it is now clear that many bacteria are likely to have functional ethylene receptors. This research will explore the role of these receptors in soil bacteria physiology and in regulating their association with plants.
