Drs. Mariano Labrador and Thomas Dockendorff were awarded an R21 exploratory/developmental research award from the National Institutes of Mental Health for $275,000 over the next 2 years entitled FMR1 Protein and Chromatin Insulators Mediate Chromatin Function and Genome Integrity. The focus of this research is to study the role of FMR1 protein on chromosome structure and how this impacts the development of Drosophila. FMR1 proteins are linked to Fragile X Syndrome in humans. The studies proposed will give insights into this syndrome. Visit the Labrador Website for more information.
