Each spring the BCMB department enjoys gathering for a reception that honors our undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff for their excellent work. We also take this opportunity to invite parents and families of our undergraduate honorees. Thanks to generous donations that have been made to the department, we have been able to offer scholarships and cash awards to our most outstanding majors, staff and faculty members. For undergraduates we recognize top graduates, students who have been engaged in undergraduate research, and scholarship recipients (learn more about the scholarships we have in BCMB at link here to our undergraduate scholarships page). Our BCMB Research Scholarship recognizes a student who has been actively engaged in undergraduate research with aid towards tuition and a stipend to support their lab research. The C. W. Fite Fellowship for Outstanding Professional Promise recognizes an undergraduate student who demonstrates excellence in their academics and professional development activities. We have a pre-dentistry fellowship named in memory of one of our recent BCMB majors, the Tyler Duke Foundation Scholarship (see award winners and highlights).
For graduate students, we have three awards for research and teaching (see graduate student awards page), endowed by gifts by the Holton, Wright and Kouns families. Faculty who have distinguished records in teaching and research (see faculty awards page), along with staff members who contribute uniquely to our teaching and academic mission, are also recognized at this reception. We also recognize faculty who have succeeded in securing pilot funds for new research projects through the Hunsicker Research Incentive Funds we have made available in the department thanks to a generous donation.
