Priyojit Das, in collaboration with Tongye Shen and Rachel Patton McCord, published “Inferring chromosome radial organization from Hi‑C data” in BMC Bioinformatics. Researchers describe new ways to computationally predict the positions of chromosomes inside the human nucleus using genome wide chromosome contact data (Hi-C).
The 3D positions of chromosomes can change in important ways during cell development and disease, but monitoring these changes by fluorescence microscopy is challenging. The computational analysis approaches described in this paper allow a quick prediction of chromosome positions across the hundreds of cell types and conditions for which Hi-C data is already available and will be an important analysis tool for researchers.
