Rena Abdurehman Selected for a Fullbright Fellowship

Rena Abdurehman, an undergraduate researcher in the lab of Barry Bruce, was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Research Award to conduct research in Argentina. She will be in Rosario, Argentina for nine months working with Dr. Eduardo Ceccarelli, a primary investigator at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Rosario (IBR-CONICET). She will be working on the bioremediation of wastewater by using Duckweed (Lemna minor) as an effective, cost-efficient means of water purification. Using this aquatic species, she will also be testing the viability of Leptosira interrogans against different duckweed strains in the hopes of substantially reducing the prevalence rate of Leptospirosis across Argentina.
