The reception announcing the scholarship, fellowship and award recipients is canceled and winners will be notified via email. These awards are available to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors who have declared a BCMB major. To apply for these scholarships, a student must submit a letter of interest describing their qualifications to be considered for the award, a current transcript, a list of courses currently in progress, and two letters of recommendation. Additional criteria and submission requirements for each award are described below. You are only allowed to apply to a maximum of two scholarships. If you are a graduating Senior, graduating in Spring or Summer 2020, you cannot apply.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 5 pm on March 20, 2020 . The application materials can be delivered to the BCMB office (1311 Cumberland Avenue, Room 309 Mossman Bldg.) or emailed to Chrissy Wills-Maples (firstname.lastname@example.org).
J. Gordon and Elizabeth S. Carlson Undergraduate Scholarship: ($1,000)
This scholarship was created to recognize outstanding BCMB majors that have exhibited academic excellence. The spirit of this award from Dr. and Mrs. Carlson is also intended to assist meritorious and deserving students who might not otherwise be able to attend the university. In the letter of interest from the student and the letters of recommendation, it should address these considerations, as well as how this scholarship will promote and support future career goals.
The Nancy Ruth Creery Memorial Scholarship ($5,000)
This scholarship was established by the parents of Nancy Ruth Creery in her honor and memory. The student applying must be currently enrolled or admitted to the University of Tennessee and major in BCMB. Preference will be given to applicants in the Pre‐Med curriculum track. Applicants must demonstrate successful academic performance. Financial need may be considered. A student holding the Creery Scholarship in year one shall have preference in subsequent years.
Tyler Duke Scholarship for Pre-Pharmacy ($3000)
This scholarship in the amount of $3000 has been established to recognize an outstanding College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate major who is pursuing a career in Pharmacy and will attend a College of Pharmacy after graduation from UT. Preferential consideration will be given to a BCMB major, but is open to all in the College of Arts and Sciences major who choose Pharmacy as their profession. This scholarship is available to students with a preferred overall GPA of 3.6 or above and a score on the PCAT of at least in the 80th percentile. To apply, students must submit:
- A letter of interest describing their qualifications demonstrating a clear interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy.
- A copy of their PCAT scores.
- A current transcript.
- A list of courses currently in progress
- Two letters of recommendation.

Carolyn W. Fite Scholarship: ($3,000)
This scholarship recognizes an outstanding BCMB major who demonstrates professional promise through an excellent academic record and interest in research and scholarship. Your high achievements as an undergraduate student are a tribute to your commitment to learning and attainment of your goals. In addition, to the materials requested above, students need to provide a CV and research statement.
Emmette and Nannie Hale Scholarship for Pre-Dentistry: ($3000)
This scholarship has been established to recognize an outstanding BCMB undergraduate major who intends to attend dental school after graduation from UT. In addition to the materials requested above, the applicant should submit a description (no more than 1 page) regarding how s/he is preparing for a career in dentistry beyond fulfilling the academic requirements for the BCMB major and admission to dental school.

Dr. John R. Staley, Jr. Scholarship ($1000)
This scholarship has been established to recognize an outstanding BCMB undergraduate major who intends to attend medical school after graduation from UT. In addition to the materials requested above, the applicant should submit a description (no more than 1 page) regarding how s/he is preparing for a career in medicine beyond fulfilling the academic requirements for the BCMB major and admission to medical school.

Undergraduate Research Scholarship ($2000 – Scholarship $500 faculty research sponsor)
The BCMB Research Scholarship is intended to recognize an outstanding BCMB undergraduate major who is a rising junior or senior and pursuing independent undergraduate research. The student should be pursuing an Honors Degree in BCMB. In addition to submitting, the materials requested above, the student should submit a one‐page description of the honors research project s/he will be pursuing. One of the two letters of recommendation must come from the honors research mentor in the BCMB department.
