These awards are available to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors who have declared a BCMB major. To apply for these scholarships, a student must submit a letter of interest describing their qualifications to be considered for the award, a current transcript, a list of courses currently in progress, and two letters of recommendation. Additional criteria and submission requirements for each award are described below. You are only allowed to apply to a maximum of two scholarships. If you are a graduating Senior & graduating in the Summer 2023, you cannot apply. If you are graduating Fall or later, you can apply.
A lunch reception will be held at Calhoun’s on the River on May 8, 2024.
The deadline for receipt of applications is midnight on Friday, March 29, 2024. The application materials can be delivered to the BCMB office (1311 Cumberland Avenue, Room 309 Ken & Blaire Mossman Bldg.) or emailed to Chrissy Wills-Maples (rwills@utk.edu).
J. Gordon and Elizabeth S. Carlson Undergraduate Scholarship ($4,000)
This scholarship was created to recognize outstanding BCMB majors that have exhibited academic excellence. The spirit of this award from Dr. and Mrs. Carlson is also intended to assist meritorious and deserving students who might not otherwise be able to attend the university. In the letter of interest from the student and the letters of recommendation, it should address these considerations, as well as how this scholarship will promote and support future career goals.

The Nancy Ruth Creery Memorial Scholarship ($4,000)
This scholarship was established by the parents of Nancy Ruth Creery in her honor and memory. The student applying must be currently enrolled or admitted to the University of Tennessee and major in BCMB. Preference will be given to applicants in the Pre‐Med curriculum track. Applicants must demonstrate successful academic performance. Financial need may be considered. A student holding the Creery Scholarship in year one shall have preference in subsequent years.

Tyler Duke Scholarship for Pre-Pharmacy ($2,000)
This scholarship in the amount of $2,000 has been established to recognize an outstanding College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate major who is pursuing a career in Pharmacy and will attend a College of Pharmacy after graduation from UT. Preferential consideration will be given to a BCMB major, but is open to all in the College of Arts and Sciences major who choose Pharmacy as their profession. This scholarship is available to a rising senior who has a preferred overall GPA of 3.4 or higher. To apply, students must submit:
- A letter of interest describing their qualifications demonstrating a clear interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy.
- A copy of their PCAT scores (if available).
- A current transcript.
- A list of courses currently in progress
- Two letters of recommendation.

Undergraduate Research Scholarship ($2,000 – Scholarship $500 faculty research sponsor)
The BCMB Research Scholarship is intended to recognize an outstanding BCMB undergraduate major who is a rising junior or senior and pursuing independent undergraduate research. The student should be pursuing an Honors Degree in BCMB. In addition to submitting the materials requested above, the student should submit a one‐page description of the honors research project s/he will be pursuing. One of the two letters of recommendation must come from the honors research mentor in the BCMB department.
