Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology! The department occupies a vibrant and pivotal position at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as a center for modern investigation of molecular and cellular biosciences. Research areas include computational and experimental biophysics, molecular genetics and cell biology, and integrative and mechanistic organismal investigations in plant biology and neurobiology. Our department also benefits from the unique academic and research environment afforded by UT and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Many departmental faculty are engaged in strong, cross-disciplinary, collaborative research partnerships with other academic units and various centers and programs at UT and ORNL.
The Department of BCMB has an excellent history for the training of undergraduate students, both in the laboratory as well as the classroom. The BCMB major is among the most popular in the College of Arts and Sciences, providing a critical foundation for students interested in a career in research and the health professions. Our graduate program also provides an excellent multidisciplinary training with many of our PhD graduates going on to prestigious postdoctoral and academic positions.
This website is provided as a service to prospective undergraduate and graduate students, existing students and faculty, and alumni and partners from the community. These pages include descriptions of faculty research, news about ongoing activities in BCMB, information about undergraduate scholarship and research opportunities, and details about our graduate program. We hope you find this site interesting, informative, and enjoyable. As you explore, you may need additional information. If so please do not hesitate to contact us!
